Using Discord with CharacterSphere.ai
Chat with your CharacterSphere.ai characters directly from Discord. This feature lets you continue your conversations on the go, using Discord as a mobile client for your CharacterSphere.ai chats.
Getting Started
Step 1: Link Your Discord Account
For Existing Accounts:
- Log in to your account on CharacterSphere.ai
- Navigate to My Profile → Account → Social Connect
- Click on “Connect to Discord” in your Account settings
- Complete the Discord authorization in the pop-up window
- Wait for the confirmation message that your account is linked
For New Accounts:
- Go to the CharacterSphere.ai registration page
- Choose “Sign in with Discord” as your registration method
- Complete the Discord authorization
- Your account will be created and automatically linked
Note: You only need to link your Discord account once. After that, you can chat anytime without additional setup.
Step 2: Join the Discord Server
- Open Discord on your mobile device or desktop
- Click this invite link:
https://discord.gg/3tGNz8nnQj - Click “Join Server” (this is a one-time action)
- You’re now in the server with the CharacterSphere bot
Starting a Chat
Starting a chat with Discord is easy when browsing characters on your mobile device:
- Open CharacterSphere.ai in your mobile browser and navigate to a character card
- Look for chat buttons marked with a Discord icon:
- “Our Story” – Start a chat with memories of your previous conversations
- “New Chat” – Start a new free chat without any memory
- “Chat Scenario X” – Start a chat using a specific scenario (if available for this character)
- Click any of these Discord chat buttons
- A confirmation message will appear indicating that a new private thread of conversation has been created in Discord
- You can now continue this chat in the Discord app on your mobile device, or on any computer/device where you have the Discord app installed and are logged into the same account
Managing Your Chats
Listing Conversations
To see all your chats, send the following command:
/list
The bot will display a numbered list of all your conversations with buttons to quickly continue any chat.
Continuing a Chat
You can continue an existing conversation in two ways:
Option 1: Using Discord
- Send the
/listcommand in Discord to see all your conversations - Click the button next to any conversation in the results to continue that chat
Option 2: Using Your Mobile Browser
- Navigate to the “My Chats” or the main page on CharacterSphere.ai
- Find the conversation you want to continue
- Click the “Continue Chat on Discord” button
- The conversation will open in Discord where you can continue messaging
Stopping a Chat Session
To end your current chat session (clear active chat), send:
/stop
Your chat history is automatically saved, so you can continue anytime using /list or in the browser on Desktop.

Chat Access and Permissions
Your access to characters via Discord is determined by the character’s visibility settings:

Access Control Examples
- Private Characters: Only you can chat with your own private characters via Discord
- Community Characters: Any logged-in user can chat with community characters
Message Handling
When you start or continue a chat via Discord, the bot will:
- Display the character’s featured image
- Show the character’s name
- Display the last 6 messages from your conversation (as a preview)
- Wait for your input to continue the conversation
- Show a “thinking…” indicator while the AI generates a response
Important Notes
- One Active Chat: You can only have one active chat session at a time per Discord account
- Chat History: All your chat history is automatically saved and synced between web and Discord, and you can continue the same conversation switching between a browser and Discord as needed.
- Scenario Support: Scenarios (0-5) created by character authors are fully supported on Discord
- Multiple Users: One Discord account can only be linked to one CharacterSphere.ai account
- Server Required: You must join the CharacterSphere Discord server to access the bot
Troubleshooting
Linking Issues
- “Not linked” error: Send
/statusto check your linking status, then re-link via the website - Authorization failed: Make sure your Discord account has not expired and try linking again
Chat Issues
- “No active chat”: Send
/listto see your conversations and select one - “Could not find conversation”: The chat may have been deleted or you may need to start a new chat
- “Character not available”: You may not have access to this character (private character owned by another user)
Command Not Working
- Slash commands not showing: Make sure you’re in the CharacterSphere Discord server and the bot has been installed
- Permission errors: Check that the bot has permission to send messages in the channel you’re using
Unlinking Your Account
You can unlink your Discord account from CharacterSphere.ai in the below way:
From CharacterSphere.ai Website
- Log in to your account on CharacterSphere.ai
- Navigate to My Profile → Account → Social Connect
- Click the “Unlink from Discord” button
- Your Discord account will be unlinked and you’ll need to re-link to chat again in Discord
